At our school, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to share their views and play an active role in shaping school life. Through a range of pupil leadership opportunities, we encourage children to develop confidence, responsibility and an understanding of democratic processes.

School Council

Each class elects two representatives to serve on the School Council. These pupils are chosen by their peers and meet regularly with the Headteacher to discuss a wide range of issues and ideas. The School Council provides an important forum for children to share the views of their classmates, contribute to school improvement and help make decisions that affect the whole school community.

Eco-Schools Committee

Our active Eco-Schools Committee enables pupils to take a leading role in promoting environmental awareness and sustainability across the school. Committee members work together on projects and initiatives that help us care for our environment and encourage positive environmental habits within the school community.

Whole-School Votes

An important feature of our school’s commitment to pupil voice is our termly whole-school vote. These votes help children develop an understanding of democracy while ensuring that they have a genuine say in decisions that affect them.

In recent years, children have voted on a variety of topics, including:

• Changing class names
• Naming our guinea pigs
• Whether pupils should be able to eat lunch outdoors
• How best to use our outdoor classroom during lunchtime

By involving children in meaningful decision-making, we help them understand that their opinions matter and that they can make a positive contribution to their school community.
