At Kedington Primary Academy, we have high expectations for every child and are committed to ensuring that all pupils can participate, achieve and thrive. We believe that inclusion is everyone’s responsibility and work hard to remove barriers to learning so that every child can experience success.

We celebrate the uniqueness of each child and recognise the wide range of strengths, interests, backgrounds, experiences and needs within our school community. Our aim is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where all children feel valued, supported and able to reach their full potential.

Our Inclusive Approach

High-quality teaching is at the heart of our provision for all learners. Our staff regularly assess and monitor progress to ensure that children are making good progress and to identify any additional support that may be needed.

We understand the importance of early intervention and know that children achieve their best when schools and families work together. When concerns arise, we work closely with parents and carers to understand a child’s needs and put appropriate support in place as quickly as possible.

In line with the SEND Code of Practice, we make reasonable adjustments and provide targeted support to help children access the curriculum, participate fully in school life and achieve their individual goals.

Areas of SEND

Children’s needs may fall within one or more of the following broad areas:

Communication and Interaction

This includes children who may experience difficulties with speech, language and communication, as well as those with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).

Cognition and Learning

This area includes children who may require additional support with learning, including those with specific learning difficulties and a range of learning needs.

Social, Emotional and Mental Health

Some children may experience social, emotional or mental health difficulties that impact on their wellbeing, relationships or ability to learn successfully.

Sensory and/or Physical Needs

This includes children with hearing or visual impairments, multi-sensory impairments, physical disabilities or other sensory needs that may require adaptations and specialist support.

Working in Partnership

We believe that strong partnerships with families are essential. Parents and carers know their children best, and we value their views and involvement throughout the support process.

If you have any concerns about your child’s learning, development or wellbeing, we encourage you to speak to your child’s class teacher in the first instance or make an appointment with our SENDCo, Laura Wreathall, who will be happy to discuss your concerns and offer advice and support.
