Welcome to Tigers!
We are lucky enough to have two teachers in Year 1!
Mrs Ahlquist teaches on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday afternoons and Mrs Dearman teaches on Wednesday mornings, Thursdays and Fridays. Mrs Norden is our teaching assistant and works with us all week long.
A typical day in Tigers consists of Phonics, English and Maths and then our afternoons are filled with our wider curriculum subjects – History, Geography, Art, DT, Science, Music, PSHE, RE and Music.
You will have seen our Knowledge Organisers stuck in to your red homework books for all the subjects that we are studying this half term. These Knowledge Organisers tell you key facts and important vocabulary that the children will learn throughout the term. It would be wonderful if you could spend time looking at them together at home and discussing what the children are learning in school.
This half term we are studying:
- Animals (including humans) in Science
- Changes within living memory in History
- Mechanisms in DT
- Formal elements of shape, line and colour in ART
- Christianity and Baptism in RE
- Pulse and Rhythm in Music
- Seasonal changes and Plants in Forest School
Spellings will be sent home weekly and will be stuck into your homework books. Spellings will be tested on a Wednesday and new spellings will be stuck into books by the Friday of every week.
Please can we ask that reading folders and reading books are brought to school every day – as we will read with your child during the week to see how they are getting on with their reading books. Books are changed every Monday. We are not currently writing in reading record books. If you want to share information with us, please message us using our class Dojo rather than write a message in the reading record book.
PE is on Friday afternoon. Please ensure that PE kits are in school on this day. We also run the daily mile twice a week. The children have been really enjoying taking part in this and have been showing great stamina!
Forest School with Mrs Dodman is on Tuesday afternoons. Please see our original letter posted on Dojo about your kit list.
